On a low-lying karst landscape that steps down gently to the N. Grass-covered area of about 30 acres (c. 12 ha) contains relict field walls (Wth 1.5-3m; H 0.1-0.3m) which frequently follow the E-W steps of exposed rock outcrop. The fields are rectangular and fairly large (dims c. 50m x c. 30m to c. 100m x c. 100m) but become smaller (dims c. 20m x c. 20m) at the centre of settlement cluster (RO028-161003-). There is no evidence of ridge and furrow cultivation, but the settlement and field system are integrated and contemporary. The castle (RO028-161001-) is just to the E and is also probably contemporary. (www. discoveryprogramme.ie)
