What is recorded here

At the N end of the W shore of rectangular Ardakillin Lough (dims c. 500m E-W; c. 350m N-S), on the S bank of a W-E stream. The lake was much larger in the 19th century (dims c. 1.8km NE-SW; c. 350m NW-SE at NE to c. 600m NW-SE at SW), extending much further to the NE (1837 OS 6-inch map). Rectangular grass-covered mound (dims of base 18.8m E-W; 16m N-S; dims of top 11.5m E-W; 10m N-S; H 0.4m at E to 1.2m at W) with a bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.3-0.5m), probably re-deposited spoil, on the perimeter at S and W. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
