What is recorded here

On a gentle W-facing slope of the broad WNW-ESE Carnfree ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 33m N-S; 32.6m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6.3-9.3m; Wth of top 1.5-2m; int. H 0.3m at W to 0.9m at N; ext. H 1.7-2m) and a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 7.7-9m; Wth of base 3-4m; D 0.2-0.5m). The entrance (Wth 2.2m), which has been widened (Wth 6m), and causeway (Wth 7m) are at SW (max. ext. diam. 51.5m N-S; 50m E-W). There is a hut-site (RO0280959002-) visible as a subcircular platform (dims 8.5m E-W; 7.5m N-S; H 0.1-0.3m) at the centre, and the outer face of the bank has been quarried SE-SW (L 13m). Rath (RO028-058001-) is c. 40m to the WNW, and rath (RO028-060----) is c. 30m to the ESE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
