What is recorded here

At the NE-facing crest of a NW-SE ridge. Properly known as Gleann Bhealaigh Eireamhain, it was the site of a mythological battle between the Milesians and the Tuatha de Dannan, according to J. O'Donovan (O'Flanagn 1931, vol. 1, 27, 183; Timoney 1990, 13). Circular grass-covered area (diam. 57.4m N-S; 56.3m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5-4m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 1-1.5m), which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.5m) NNE-E. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance, but a berm (Wth 5-6m) separates the bank from a field bank ESE-WSW. Rathra ceremonial enclosure (RO027-012---) is c. 800m to the SE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
