What is recorded here

Located towards the W edge of Cloonshannagh bog, with platform (RO024-038----) c. 7m to the NW and platform (RO024-043----) c. 30m to the SE. This platform (Wth 2.4m; T 0.06m) was exposed in a drain face, 0.1m below the field surface. It was orientated N-S and was composed of moderately well preserved longitudinally laid roundwood and brushwood underlain by transversely laid light brushwood. The elements were sparsely laid 0.03 to 0.28m apart. The uppermost longitudinal heavy brushwood was worked to a chisel point with degraded facets. The roundwood and the brushwood ranged from 0.07 to 0.08m and from 0.01 to 0.05m in diameter, respectively. The underlying peat was composed of moderate humified Sphagnum-rich peat with moderate Calluna and Eriophorum inclusions. Compiled by: Ros O Maoldúin/Michael Moore Date of upload: 14th April, 2011
