What is recorded here

A house and two mills at Grange are shown on an estate map of the earl of Mountrath estate dated 1730 in NLI (n. 3947, p 3618 (3)). Another map of the same area dated 1770 in NLI (ms. 2793 No. 17) has the statement 'Mills of Grange - This lough communicates from the said mills to the Shannon with boats of 20 tons. Therefore are valuable, the mills belonging to Grange, earl of Mountrath's estate.' The house was not encountered. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
