What is recorded here

Located c. 20m to the W of an enclosure (RO022-170----) and discovered through archaeological excavation in conjunction with the ‘N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project’. A circular ring-ditch (external diams. 5.32m N-S; 5.22m E-W; int. diams. 3.2m N-S; 3.25m E-W) was defined by a shallow ditch (D 0.25-0.27m; Wth 0.94-1.25m) with no evidence of an entrance. The ditch fills contained a substantial amount of burnt bone, glass beads, flint flakes and a fragment of a stone bracelet. The monument was fully excavated and recorded. Closely associated and also excavated were a series of pits (RO022-170002- and RO022-170003-) and linear features (RO022-170004-). See attached images: • RO022-170001-_01 Snip from Google Earth imagery (11-5-2020) showing location of ring-ditch after excavation. • RO022-170001-_02 Snips of Plates 7 and 8 from ‘N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project Stage (iii) Post-Excavation Assessment Report: Killeen East 1 (March 2022. Unpublished)’ showing photos of the excavated ring-ditch. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 4 August 2023
