What is recorded here

On the Rathcroghan plateau. An area of c. 2 ha (c. 4 acres) is divided into small rectangular paddocks (dims c. 20-25m x c.10m) by low earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; H 0.3m) or scarps on either side of the road (RO022-057021-) which here widens (Wth c. 20m). Two rectangular house sites are integral with the paddocks. House (RO022-057079-) (ext. dims 11.2m E-W; 6.2m N-S) has one room and a doorway in the S wall. House (RO022-057080-) (ext. dims 13.2m E-W; 7.2m N-S) has two or possibly three rooms. About 30m W of these is a house (RO022-057086-) (ext. dims c. 12m E-W; c. 8m N-S) of two rooms which incorporates the N boundary of the road in its S wall and is situated in its own paddock. About 70m N of the centre of the settlement is a house (RO022-057087-) (ext. dims c. 16.5m E-W; c. 6.5m N-S) of two rooms with entrances (Wth c. 1.5m) in the N and S walls of the larger room. Archaeological testing (E004014) immediately SE of the settlement produced no related material (Purcell 2009; excavation.ie 2009:703).
