What is recorded here

On a gentle S-facing slope of a WNW-ESE ridge. It is depicted as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a hachured rectangular feature on the 1911 edition. This is a rectangular grass-covered area (dims 31.5m NNE-SSE; 27.1m WNW-ESE) defined by poached earthen banks with some bushes at N (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.3m), S (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m) and W (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.6m), and by a N-S drain (Wth of top 3.2m; Wth of base 1.8m; D 0.5-0.6m) at E. There is no outer fosse or identifiable original entrance. This was probably a circular rath that was transformed into a rectangular field. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 10 May 2018
