What is recorded here

Ono, a Druid and one of two brothers who owned this territory sought gold from St. Patrick for the site of a church. For this offence the saint said that none of the Cinel Mac Earca would rule the Connachta but would always be allies of their kings. A contrite Ono offered his own fort to the saint (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 2, 2-5). It was probably on the site of Elphin Cathedral (RO016-127001-), but there is no trace of it now. This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
