What is recorded here

First identified as a potential monument in an unpublished archaeological LiDAR report (Davis, 2015) commissioned by Roscommon County Council as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the N5 Ballaghaderreen - Scramoge road development. It is located in grass and meadow grass at the summit of a hill within the larger enclosure (RO015-074002-). This is an oval area (dims 46m N-S; 27m E-W) defined by scarp (at E: H 1m; at SSE: H 0.15m) N-S-SW and an earthen bank (Wth 3.4-3.6m; int. H 0.6-075m; ext. H 1.05m) SW-N, which incorporates the bank of the other enclosure. There is an outer fosse (at NW: Wth of top 2.5m; ext. D 0.75m) NW-N, which is likely to be part of the original perimeter of the hilltop enclosure. The original entrance is not identified. The perimeter is truncated slightly at W by a N-S field wall and the interior is overlain by an ENE-WSW stone-faced field bank towards the S edge.
