What is recorded here

An early ecclesiastical site, traditionally founded St Patrick. Situated on the crest at the S end of a NW-SE ridge. Rectangular structure (int. dims 8.1m N-S; 4.3m E-W) defined by the base of the walls (T 0.9m; max. H 0.6m) is situated at the W end of a rectangular grass-covered enclosure (RO014-065002-) (int. dims 32.5m E-W; 22.5m N-S) which was used as a children's burial ground. This is defined by a stone spread (Wth 2.5-3.2m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 0.6-1m) containing the base of a wall (T 1.2m at N). The enclosure has an entrance (Wth 1.6m) at the centre of the W side marked by a large stone (dims 0.6m x 0.25m; H 0.7m) on its N side. A bullaun stone (RO014-065004-) (dims 0.75m x 0.5m; T 0.25m) with a single basin (dims 0.5m x 0.4m; D 0.15m) is re-used as a grave-marker S of the church. The E perimeter of the rectangular enclosure is also the E perimeter of a circular grass-covered ecclesiastical enclosure (RO014-065003-) (diam. 66m N-S; 63m E-W) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (at E: Wth 3.6m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.7m; at W: Wth 6.5m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.4m). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
