Marked as a large building on the 1837 (MA 74) (dims c. 20m E-W; c. 15m N-S) and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch maps, and situated on low-lying ground 60m NE of the W-E Lung River. It is thought to have been a castle of the Costellos. Nothing is visible at ground level in pasture. Archaeological testing (05E0601) c. 100m to the NE failed to produce any related material (Henry, M. 2008b). Further testing (14E0328) immediately to the S failed to produce any related material (Rooney 2014).
