What is recorded here

There are reference to a bridge at Knockvicar in 1595 when Hugh Roe O'Donnell crossed over it into Co. Roscommon (OSL vol. 1, 92; AFM vol. 6, 1963). Weld (1832, 246) says that a bridge was constructed here in 1728. However, the present bridge (L 65m) has three arches and was probably built by the Shannon Navigation in 1840s.
