What is recorded here

Situated on S facing slope of rising ground in upland area. Large circular area enclosed by a dry stone wall (Wth 2m; max. H 2m) constructed with small stones possibly field clearance debris associated with ruinous farmhouse attached to S side of enclosure. There is no surface trace of any church inside the enclosure. Holy well (OF043-067003-) and holy bush located in centre of enclosure. The enclosure may be a 19th-century field boundary following the line of an earlier ecclesiastical enclosure. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
