What is recorded here

On top of high ground in upland area with tumulus and ring-barrow (OF043-040002/003-) nearby to the SW and NE respectively. Large steep sided flat topped earthen mound (H 4.5m; top diam. 9m; base diam. 25m approx.) with a deep cavity on top (D 1.5m) due to modern disturbance. No evidence of an enclosing fosse at base of mound. One of a group of three burial sites. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
