What is recorded here

Situated on the NW facing slope of rising ground in upland area. The site was totally overgrown making exact measuring and examination impossible. The site consisted of a circular area (diam 58m NW-SE; 49m SW-NE) enclosed by two earthen banks, intervening fosse (Wth 3m; ext. D. 0.5m; int. D 1.3m) with possible entrance gap at NE. The inner bank is reduced to a scarp in most places while the outer bank (Wth 1.5m) is the best preserved. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
