What is recorded here

A compact brushwood structure (L 1m; Wth 0.78m; D 0.13m), evident in opposing drain faces. The structure is formed of compactly laid light brushwood, up to 4 pieces deep. The ditching machine in part caused the apparent disarrangement of the brushwood. Wood species are dominated by hazel with a small amount of Pyrus/Malus also recorded. The site is located in moderately humified Sphagnum with frequent Menyanthes seeds, ericaceous root and occasional pieces of Eriophorum. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin). Date of upload: 23 May 2011
