What is recorded here

Located on top of high ground with good views of undulating countryside. Poorly preserved circular area (approx. diam 40m E-W) defined by a scarp (ext. H 0.5m) with wide shallow fosse (Wth 2.5m) and slight external bank (Wth 2.5m) both of which are visible at S only. There is no evidence of any entrance feature. Field fence intercepts site at N with no evidence of any enclosing element from NE through E to SE. Depicted on 1840 edition of OS 6-inch map as large circular enclosure. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
