No surface trace visible of a church inside rectangular shaped graveyard (OF017-012001-). The ITA Survey (1942) describes a low mound on which the foundations of a rectangular church (int. dims. 13yds x 4yds) are just traceable. On the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map this monument is marked as 'Site of Balleenlawn Church'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
