Structure — peatland in Ballydaly

A dispersed band (Wth 10.7m; D 0.5m) of mixed brushwood in opposing drain faces. The brushwood is irregularly laid and a distinct structure is not discernible. At the W end of the band, there is a concentration of light brushwood (Wth c. 1.4m). No toolmarks are noted in this concentration although a small number of the more dispersed pieces have worked ends. It is possible that more than one site is present within this band. Wood species identified include birch, holly, alder and Pomoideae. All the wood lies within moderately humified Sphagnum peat with occasional Eriophorum. This is one of a series of comparable sites along a 34m long stretch in this drain face which includes SMR OF015-153---- to the NW and SMR OF015-154---- to the SE. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
