Medieval cut limestone with punch dressed surface from Ballyclare Castle now incorporated into the ruins of a post-medieval brick vaulted building standing on the banks of the Brosna River. Castle site may have been located on site of or in close proximity to the post-medieval vaulted building. Ballyclare Castle listed by De Renzy as a castle in Baile an Klar or Baile Clar along the Brosna River between Gallen and Ballysheil (Kerrigan 1998, 431). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
