Mullanakill Church (in Ruins) — Clonlyon Glebe

Located on high ground with holy well (OF014-019----) to S and Childrens Burial ground (OF014-016----) to N. Poorly preserved remains of a rectangular church (ext. dims. 7.1m N-S; 16.5m E-W; wall T 0.9m) built with roughly coursed limestone rubble. Only portion of S wall stands to full height and has a narrow slit window with rough unworked jambs. The rest of the building is covered in ivy with no other architectural features evident. Possible 18th-century date due to simple crude window and lack of any worked stone. Known locally as St. Brigids church and may be associated with penal times as mentioned in the ITA Survey (1942). No evidence of any enclosure surrounding the church. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
