What is recorded here

Located on top of high ground in undulating countryside. Raised circular area (N/S diam. 40m; ext. H. 0.70m) defined by a scarp and outer fosse which is visible at East only with several erect unmarked headstones orientated E/W aligned on N/S rows. Dense overgrowth makes full examination impossible. Old pathway intersects outer fosse at west. The enclosure is the enclosing fosse around the graveyard. Graveyard boundary is defined by a scarp which may originally have been a bank and an outer fosse which is still partially visible. Contemporary with gravemarkers and not a seperate site, include as part of graveyard. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
