What is recorded here

Situate on top of high ground in undulating countryside. Partially levelled mound of irregular shape (H 0.7m; diam. c. 20m). According to local farmer this was the site of a ringfort which local people believed was the residence of the 'wee people', and 'that children wouldn't dream of approaching the site after sunset' (SMR File 1988, correspondence from K. P. Egan). Of doubtful antiquity. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 28 December 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
