What is recorded here

A substantial site (Wth 2.05m min.; D 0.6m min.) of twigs and brushwood with a roundwood and a timber. Most of the brushwood and the roundwood are parallel and overlie a bed of twigs (D 0.18m max.), present across the width of the site. There is a marked step in the profile of the site at its NE extent where it slopes steeply downward by 0.35m and continues below the water level. The site is in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with some fibrous roots. This is one of five closely situated sites along a 6m length of the drain including SMR OF010-201---- 0.2-0.34m above the NE extent of the site. SMR OF010-199----, SMR OF010-198---- and SMR OF010-197---- are to the SW. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin). Date of upload: 23 May 2011
