Stone has disappeared and local informant said it was buried in the ground nearby the original site.
Not visible at ground level. According to local information the stone was buried in the field it was located in. Located in well drained pasture on NE facing slope of rising ground with nearby standing stone to SW (OF010-014----). Not marked on first two editions of OS 6-inch maps.
Test excavation was carried out by Dominic Delany under licence no. 00E0866 at the site of a proposed dwelling on 11 November, in response to a request for further information from Offaly County Council. The site lies c. 1km south-east of the archaeological complex at Croghan Hill and is within the area of constraint around the possible site of a standing stone. The stone stood c. 50m east of the proposed dwelling and, according to local information, now lies buried in the field in which it formerly stood. A second standing stone (SMR 10:14) lies c. 100m south-west of the site. Four test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of the proposed development. The topsoil, 0.7m thick, directly overlay bedrock and natural sand and gravel deposits. No archaeological material was discovered.
