What is recorded here

Surface spring which rises in flat pasture land. Well is unenclosed and has no features of archaeological interest (OS Letters Vol. I 113). No surface trace visible of well which was located on the W facing slope of Croghan hill with medieval church (OF010-010) and castle (OF010-010) to the N and NW. (O' Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 40; Comerford 1883, 320-2) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
