Not visible at ground level. Site appears to be that of a natural glacial hillock with no man-made features visible. Potential monument identified by T. McDonald as part of an archaeological survey of the Clonmacnoise region in 1987 (McDonald 1987, 19). Described by McDonald as 'south east of Mongan's Bog is a mound encircled by stone wall on south side (long axis east-west). A roadway bisects site at east end, which has been partially quarried away' (McDonald 1987, 19).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
