What is recorded here

This Ogham stone was found during the digging of a grave in the new cemetery in May 1990. It is a large rectangular piece of sandstone with a short damaged ogham inscription on one edge. The inscription is damaged, but the letters NADAV… can be made out (Manning 1994, 42-3). It may date from as early as the fifth or sixth century (Manning 1994, 42). This ogham stone was found while digging the grave plot of Mr Tom Longworth of Ballinahown. (King, H. 1993, 'Preliminary report on the 1993 excavations in the New Graveyard at Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly'). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
