What is recorded here

Situated in a low-lying position in an undulating landscape. According to local tradition, the site of an ancient church and associated graveyard (MO034-016002-), neither of which are indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps, was in Killerk on the N side of an E-W road and bones had been found there. There is no reference to it from Killark school in the Schools’ Manuscripts from the 1930s, for which see this web-page accessed on 15/06/2017: http://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4723809 If it exists its precise location cannot be precisely identified. The abpve description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 27 June 2017
