Located on the summit of a NW-SE ridge. A circular earthwork is depicted on the McCrea Map of County Monaghan (1793) at Ballingarry, but its exact location is not known. There is local information about the discovery of what might be a souterrain (MO031-058----) made by the County Engineer in the vicinity and it may be connected with the fort, but its precise location is not known. Archaeological testing (06E0872) in the vicinity failed to produce any related material (Seaver 2009).
