What is recorded here

Located on a rise in a relatively low-lying landscape with drumlins to the NE and SW. This is a raised and domed subcircular grass-covered area (diam. 34m N-S; 30.5m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at N: Wth 6.5m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 2m) WNW-N-E and an overgrown scarp (at S: Wth 1.4m; H 2.2m) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse, although a field wall outside it SE-E creates the impression of one. The entrance (Wth of base 3.3m) is at NNE. According to local information there is a souterrain (MO031-060002-) WNW of the centre. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 31 July 2017
