What is recorded here

Situated on the summit of a drumlin. This rath is marked on McCrea’s map of Co. Monaghan (1793). It is a raised overgrown area (diam. c. 36m N-S) that has been planted with coniferous trees. It is defined by a scarp (at N: H 1.3m), with an outer fosse or drain (Wth of top 2.8m; Wth of base 1.8m; int. D 1.9m; ext. D 0.5m) SE-S where the scarp has a stone facing. There is no identifiable original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 25 August 2017
