What is recorded here

Situated on a rise which is on a fairly broad, undulating ridge. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. In 1984 traces of an earthen bank (max. H 0.7m at E) were visible in pasture E-S-NW (diam. c. 32m E-W) on the S side of an E-W field bank, but no archaeological feature was visible N of the field bank which had been removed by 1995 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 9 May 2018
