Located at the centre of the triangular (dims c. 370m N-S; c. 330m E-W) Drum Lough. It is depicted as an island on a revision of the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map that is dated 1858, and a small stony island (diam. c. 10m) is sometimes visible, although it is frequently hidden beneath the level of the water and has not yet been inspected.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
