Situated at the S end of a short N-S drumlin ridge which is known as ‘Doon’, meaning a fort. This is an oval grass-covered area (dims 27m NE-SW; 21.5m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 4m; int. H c. 0.5m; ext. H c. 2m) NNW-NE which is largely reduced to a scarp and hedge that has a field bank at its base WSW-WNW. The original entrance is not identified with certainly but it might be the gap (Wth of base 1m) at SSW. The interior has become overgrown since 1968 (OSAP).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
