What is recorded here

Situated on a hilltop. A gallery (L 4.8m; average Wth 0.8m) consisting of a short portico at the W end and a longer main chamber is incorporated in a mound (L 18m; Wth 12m). Outer walling is represented at SE and along the NW of the gallery. Two stones to the N of the outer walling and a single stone to the E of the gallery are probably kerb stones. There is a large stone c. 6m S of the gallery and inside the line of mound, but its function is unclear. (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1982, 131) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 23 February 2018
