What is recorded here

Located just below the crest of a drumlin at W. This is an overgrown circular area (diam. 35m WNW-ESE; 32m NNE-SSW) that sloped down slightly to the W defined by an earthen bank separated by a fosse from an outer earthen bank. The outer bank may be modern as there is a slight berm between the fosse and its inner edge S-N-E, and it is incorporated into a field bank with external stone facing NW-E. The entrance through the inner (Wth of base 2.2m) bank with a causeway (Wth of top 4.2m; H 0.8m) is at E, but the entrance through the outer bank here appears to be modern. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 29 January 2018
