What is recorded here

Situated on a hill within the town of Clones. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 26m N-S; 26m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 3.1m; Wth of top 1m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.15m) with trees and scrub and an outer fosse (at N: Wth of top 2.2m; ext. D 0.15m). There is a large modern entrance gap at SSW, but the original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 26 January 2018
