What is recorded here

Located on top of a drumlin. It is depicted faintly as an embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, with a NW-SE house immediately to the NE. It was described in 1967 as a raised rather irregularly shaped area (diam. c. 30m) with the abandoned farmhouse just to the NE. It is now represented in a curve in a field bank (diam. c. 30m) SE-W-NW (OSAP: 1995). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 26 January 2018
