Indicated — Mullatishaughlin

Situated in the N part of Hollywood Lake, in a shallow part of the oval lake (max. dims c. 470m N-S; c. 350m E-W), c. 75m from the shore at NE. The lake was known as Slackgrove Lake (OS 1834), and before that as Annahah. Patrick Mac Art Maoil Mac Mahon, a contender for the lordship of Monaghan in 1590, had a base at Annahagh, and in the local tradition his grandson, Art Roe, was shot at the door of his house in Annahagh in sight of his grandfather’s island stronghold (Smyth 1954, 4). The crannog is a circular mound of clay, brushwood and stones (diam. 18m N-S; 16m E-W; H 0.4m) surrounded by a double ring of piles c. 3m from the visible shore. A causeway to the shore might be indicated in a visible line of reeds. A small platform (dims 2m x 0.5m) was visible at S beneath the water and a dug-out canoe (L c. 3-4m) was visible off the SW shore.
