Kilcorran Lough is a subrectangular lake (dims c. 370-c. 500m NE-SW; c. 370-c. 430m NW-SE) surrounded by drumlins with a crannog c. 30m from the central part of the NW shore. This is a circular overgrown cairn (diam. 22-23m; H 2m) that continues underwater (L 5m plus; D 3m plus). At the shoreline on the E side are at least 16 radial beams (dims 0.1m x 0.1m; L 1m; up to dims 0.3m x 0.3m; L 5m) with pegs at intervals (0.5m). On the same side there are at least 26 vertical piles. There were some quern stones and hone stones on the surface. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
