What is recorded here

Located on an E-facing slope in an undulating landscape with drumlins. Archaeological testing (17E0310) on the line of road improvements to the N2 Monaghan to Emyvale road identified a pit filled with a mix of heat-shattered stone and charcoal, which was fully excavated under another licence (17E0602). The excavation recorded a rectangular trough (dims 1.72m x 1.10m; max. D 0.13m) with stake-holes in each corner and an oval pit (dims 0.77m x 0.6m; D 0.18m), both of which were filled with burnt stone in clay matrices with charcoal. No artefacts were recovered but a sample of hazel charcoal from the trough produced a C14 date of 2944 BP (1259-1046 cal. BC). See Excavations.ie 2017:648.
