Archaeological monitoring (15E0577) by P. Duffy, D. Bayle and J. Whitaker of topsoil stripping over a large area (c. 92 ha.) conducted intermittently between Dec. 2015 and October 2018 uncovered 37 locations of potential archaeological importance (excavations.ie 2016:051). Each of these was further investigated by the same archaeologists under different licences. At Site 3, excavation (16E0064) by P. Duffy recorded (excavations. ie 2016:557) an isolated pit (dims 2.5m x 1m; D 0.42m) that was cut by an open field gully (Wth 1.2m). Its basal fill of brown/grey clay with charcoal was beneath a grey/brown clay with charcoal. There was no evidence of burning in situ and it is thought to represent hearth waste. No artefacts were recovered and no dating is available. (Duffy et. al. 2021, 34)
