Structure — peatland in Knockersally or Colehill

A heavy roundwood and brushwood structure consisting of four heavy roundwoods and one piece of heavy brushwood exposed in section in the drain face 0.4m below the surface. The elements form a coherent horizon, one to two elements deep. Three of them form a tight group towards the centre of the structure. All elements are horizontal and longitudinally-laid. The structure is visible in the opposing drain face and both sightings lie within raised bog peats with Eriophorum (Bermingham 2014). The site was excavated in 2015 (licence: 15E0175) and dated to cal. 1664-1464 BC (UBA-26632). The excavated site was composed of two heavy NW-SE oriented roundwoods, with split alder timber fragments and associated smaller roundwood and brushwood elements located between them. A N–S oriented split timber was located at their E extent. The entire site measured 0.42–1.35m in width and 2.6m in length. The wood was generally in poor condition and only two toolmarked ends were noted (Whitaker 2017).
