What is recorded here

Situated on a slight NW-SE ridge. This is a raised subcircular and grass-covered area (dims 41m N-S; 36m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at NW: Wth of base 5.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.7mn) with a hedge SW-N-SE but is reduced to a scarp (at SE: Wth 3m; H 1.2m) elsewhere. It has an external fosse (at NW: Wth of top 5m; Wth of base 2.5m; ext. D 0.2m), beyond which are slight remains of outer bank (Wth of base 2m at NW to c. 6m at SE) and an outer fosse (at NW: Wth of base 3m; ext. D 0.8m at NW) the visible profiles of which have been almost completely removed but the features are visible as vegetation marks (max. ext. diam. 74m NW-SE). The original entrance may be at SSE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 10 July 2007 Amended: 22 November 2021, 24 March 2023
