Situated on a rise in a fairly level landscape. Archaeological monitoring (98E0352) by Donald Murphy of topsoil removal over an area of about 8 hectares (c. 20 acres) in the N borrowing area of a mining development identified four spreads of burnt mound material and other features that were completely excavated by the same archaeologist under the same license (excavations.ie 1999:708). The features in Area 5 were resolved as two pits (diam. 0.5-0.53m; D 0.12m: 0.3-0.32m; D 0.12m) set 6.55m apart and c. 25m NW of the fulacht fia (ME018-035----). They were both filled with silty clays that had charcoal flecks or some burnt stone, and three flints, one with secondary working, were recovered from the larger pit. (Murphy 1999, 11)
