Located close to the N shore of Whitewood Lough, a subcircular lake (dims c. 580m N-S; c. 500m E-W). A small crannog was identified in 1955 as a low, barely perceptible mound (diam. 7m) when the level of the lake was lowered (NMI file). It was surrounded by a double row of piles. Its exact location is not known but it is on the shore now.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
