This corn mill is mentioned as follows in the Strafford Inquisition of Co. Mayo undertaken in 1635-37: 'the tucking-mill [MA111-011001-] and corn-mill of Castlekeele,…with the house, under lands, commons, etc. for £16st.' (O' Sullivan 1958, 109). These watermills are likely to have been located in the N end of the Castlemagarretpark New townland in the vicinity of Castlekeel castle (MA111-016----) and house (MA111-014002-) which are located on the N bank of the Robe River, however, no remains of the mills have been found and their precise location is unknown. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
